A new day, 18 December 2019

When I witnessed this incredible sunrise in Budapest in late 2019, I had no idea that life would soon take me back to Australia and that COVID would slam the door shut behind me for the next two years. My Hungarian residence permit had just been renewed for five years, but I wouldn't see the Danube again until  September 2022.

Stunning Budapest sky

It's easy to get a crick in the neck in Budapest, because there's so much to see and enjoy going on above your head.

Cafe Zsivago

Who better to introduce me to a beautiful Russian cafe, housed in a 19th-century building a few minutes' walk from my temporary home in Budapest, than Alexandra Ivanoff?

I once lived on a clifftop that looked straight out to sea, which was pretty groovy! But I grew up on a river, and I've loved river cities ever since. They don't get much more beautiful than Budapest on the Danube (or 'Duna'). The river once marked the border of the Roman Empire.

Book carts

There are a number of these carts in the inner city, with secondhand books mostly in Hungarian, with a smattering of other languages.

Varosliget mansion

Many of the gorgeous 19th-century mansions near Varosliget (City Park) are now embassies or consulates.

Főv. Ált. Iskola, Dob utca

This elementary school was built in 1906 in the art nouveau style. I love walking around the city. Every street offers the probability of something to delight the eye.

Welcome to My Beautiful Budapest Blog

To my eyes, Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities I've spent time in. In this blog, I'll be posting photos that I hope will show many different aspects of its beauty.
